And another one is bitten to Dust....

I was astonished, chagrined, and disappointed this morning to find a missing gold fish in my tank. Finally, I found the skeleton under where the pleco had been.

According to internet postings, plecos do not normally eat other fish unless they are dead or dying. In this case, however, I think it was a case of desperate times calling for desperate measures. The fish was one of my smallest, and was very healthy. I can see how the pleco may have pushed it to the ground or wall, and battered it to death.

I noticed early on that the Pleco was re-positioning too much, suggesting there was no algae for it to eat, on this fairly new tank. Instead of getting algae tablets, I ignored it, thinking he would keep moving around and always find something to eat. I didn't think we would be so hungry he'd kill a fellow aquarium citizen for a meal.

He's been placed into solitary, and I am trying to get rid of him soon as possible, by selling to someone on Craig's List. Know anybody who has a lot of algae and needs a really clean sucker-fish?

I'm very disturbed by this disturbance of my micro-ecosystem, but this is survival of the fittest. This is what goes on in the whole natural world. And most likely- the freed soul of this fish has been released to a more fortunate karmic existence. For it's own sake, I hope not a human!

On a more selfish note, I am irritated that I can't keep my numbers right. 7 is the recommended number for good feng shui.
